About This Work
This project marked a new chapter for Leigh-Anne as she embarked on the release and tour of her debut solo album, My Ego Told Me To. The moment I heard it, I knew I wanted to create something special for her. The narrative running through the album is so strong — igniting her alter ego and journeying back to her younger, fearless, unapologetic self — so it felt essential to weave that thread through the show, whilst striking a healthy balance between a story-led concept and a tour that genuinely slaps as a piece of live entertainment. Using moving frames as mirrors, silhouette framing and breakthrough barriers, the show became an embodied, real-time expression of the album. With one dancer playing both her alter ego and younger self, we landed on something vulnerable and relatable, but also had a powerful presence for duo numbers, hyping the crowd and building real connection with the live band. The show then developed into festival versions, where I put the movement onto the backing vocalists and expanded the staging to suit the bigger festival setting.
