I worked closely with Nao to shape the creative vision for her new album Jupiter and the tour that followed, taking the show across the UK, Ireland, Europe and North America. With such an incredible catalogue of music behind her, I was so excited to build a show that captured the eclectic colours running through her beautiful body of work. We developed Nao's movement vocabulary together, choreographing set pieces, structures and skillsets she could draw on throughout the show's journey. We brought in elegant, flowing white silk fans, which added a heightened, unexpected extension to the gorgeous world of Jupiter. Two incredible dancers brought lift and texture to the stand-out numbers, but it was important the movement stayed nuanced and considered, rather than falling into the generic backing-dancer setup. We wove the band into the choreography too, creating a harmony of movement across the stage that channelled the unmatched energy of Nao's work and translated into a one-of-a-kind experience for the audience.
