About This Work
Four nominations on the night, and one chance to show the O2 what her fans already knew. We opened with over 70 dancers marching the arena gangways waving pan-African flags, building to a rip-away of the hero flag revealing Simz for Introvert. Then a full reset for Woman: live band, ten female dancers in tailored suits of different colours, a completely new energy for a different side of the album. I choreograph the cameras as carefully as the cast. The colour cannon pathway for Simz to travel down (me included, I couldn't resist!) was framed for the overhead shot before a single dancer learned it, and that moment circulated online for months after the broadcast. The arena gets the scale. The TV cut gets the picture. Both audiences think it was made for them, because I engineered it to be for both audiences.
